Wiener Dog Derby back in Oconomowoc for Oktoberfest this weekend
OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (CBS 58) – Oktoberfest and the popular Wiener Dog Derby are back at Wisconsin Harley-Davidson in Oconomowoc Saturday, October 7. Now in its fourth season, the derby features dachshund races in five age classes and a costume contest with three categories.
“This is just a feel good event that is fun for the whole family. We’re also proud to help raise awareness of local dog rescue organizations during the event. Harley lovers tend to also be dog lovers, so this event is a natural,” stated Robert Moakley, owner of Wisconsin Harley-Davidson.
Oktoberfest festivities in addition to the derby include a German beer garden, Hammerschlagen tournament, free grilled brats and live polka by the Keith Gennerman Polka Band. Admission and parking are free to the public during this popular event.
People may register their dachshunds online at WISHD.com or onsite the day of the event. The fee is $5 per dog per contest with all proceeds benefiting local rescues. Registered dogs will also receive a commemorative bandana upon check in.
