MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- There are a lot of ways to give back this holiday season. On this Giving Tuesday, Nov. 30, The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is showing first-hand how donations help shelter animals in Wisconsin.

Rose, a 5-month-old puppy, arrived at the WHS in October with a long list of problems. According to the WHS, she had mange, causing her to lose fur and making her skin dry, thick, itchy and painful. Her ears were infected and one eye had swollen shut.

It was a severe case and her prognosis was guarded – she was in a fight for her life and needed emergency intervention.

Rose’s treatment included warm, medicated baths three times a week, daily antibiotics and ear drops twice a day. She had to wear a warm coat to protect her bare skin from the cold November air.

With the support of the WHS veterinary team and her dedicated foster family, Rose’s condition slowly but surely began to improve. Her fur started to return along with her playful puppy personality.

With each visit, the WHS medical team grew more and more hopeful that she could beat this.

Today Rose is unrecognizable from the somber pup that the WHS treated in October.

She'll still need more treatment before she is medically cleared for adoption, but she is thriving in her foster home, racing around the backyard collecting sticks and playing keep-away.

The WHS said this is all because of the support from donors in the community.

WHS is still monitoring Rose's condition to ensure she’s back to full health, but she is expected to be available for adoption soon.

On this Giving Tuesday, Virginia Kress is matching all donations up to $50,000 to support emergency medical care for dogs like Rose.

Every donation made until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30 will be matched.  You can make a donation here.
