Wisconsin State Patrol plans aerial enforcement in 2 counties

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin State Patrol has announced plans to enhance traffic law enforcement through aerial surveillance in two counties, according to press release issued on Monday, April 3.

Weather permitting, the State Patrol's Air Support Unit will monitor traffic violations from the sky on I-94 in Dunn County on Monday, April 3, and in Waukesha County on Friday, April 7.

WSP noted in their release that aerial enforcement allows pilots to easily spot speeding or aggressive drivers. When a violation is observed, pilots communicate with ground-based units to initiate a traffic stop.

The aerial method aims to improve road safety by promoting voluntary compliance with traffic laws, rather than merely stopping or citing drivers.
