Wisconsin students still have time to adorn Capitol Holiday Tree with handmade ornaments

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Wisconsin students have an opportunity to participate in a festive tradition by contributing handmade ornaments to the holiday tree at the State Capitol in Madison.

Governor Tony Evers encourages students to submit ornaments fitting this year's theme, "Celebrating 175 Years of Wisconsinites." The theme honors the state's history and its residents' contributions over the past 175 years.

According to Gov. Evers in a statement made on Oct. 30, "Wisconsin, from its Great Lakes coasts to its vast white pine forests and fruitful farmland, has made countless contributions to our country and the world."

He celebrated the significance of the state's people, noting, "We can't celebrate Wisconsin’s birthday without celebrating the activists, workers, leaders, trailblazers, innovators, dreamers and advocates who’ve made us the state we are today."

The Capitol's holiday tree, located in the rotunda, is a yearly display enjoyed by visitors during the holiday season.

Ornaments should be made from non-breakable material and be 4-6 inches in size, featuring colors that contrast with the tree for visibility. A ten-inch loop of ribbon or string should be attached for hanging.

Submissions should be sent to:

Emily Gorman
Wisconsin Department of Administration
Division of Facilities and Transportation Services
17 West Main Street, Suite 119
Madison, WI 53703

The deadline for ornament submissions is Wednesday, Nov. 22.
