Wisconsin's updated motorcyclists' handbook aims to improve rider safety 🏍️
MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Motorcyclists in Wisconsin have a new addition to their safety arsenal, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The recently revised 2023 Wisconsin Motorcyclists’ Handbook offers in-depth safety information and road rules for bikers.
In a Tuesday, June 20 press release, Kristina Boardman, the DMV Administrator, called reviewing the Handbook the "first step to safe riding and proper licensure."
With Wisconsin experiencing about 2,000 crashes involving motorcycles annually, this new resource aims to minimize accidents through enhanced rider education.
Key safety measures underlined in the handbook include the use of high visibility protective gear, adherence to speed limits, sober riding and distraction avoidance. The importance of drivers of larger vehicles remaining aware of motorcycles on the road was also emphasized.
David Pabst, Bureau of Transportation Safety Director, said, "This newly updated handbook is a great resource to learn best practices."
