HUBERTUS, Wis. (CBS 58) - What should have been a simple visit to Holy Hill turned stressful for one woman. Her purse was stolen while she was there.

Mary Grace North goes to Holy Hill Basilica in Hubertus often. Last year, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and the church has become a place that brings her comfort.

A couple of weeks ago, she went to watch the live nativity. While grabbing a quick snack at the café, she set her purse aside.

“I’m looking at my phone it’s almost two p.m. and the nativity was starting, and I just walked out not thinking about my bag,” she said.

She says she didn’t realize the purse was missing until later, while riding in the car with her daughter.

“Me and my daughter were planning to go shopping and I remembered oh my God my bag is not in the car.”

She says the bag held about $2,000 in cash, credit cards, and most importantly, a medical “Port Card” she needs for chemotherapy treatment. The card identifies a surgically implanted port used for repeated chemotherapy access. Doctors rely on it to safely access her port and provide proper care, especially in emergencies.

North says she called the cafeteria, but staff told her no one had turned in the purse.

Security video shows a woman picking up the purse and leaving the café.

“Big or small if it’s not yours you should turn it in. You don’t know the story of the person behind that bag,” she said.

North is asking anyone who recognizes the woman or finds the purse to return it.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 262-335-4378.
