MEQUON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- While April is Parkinson's awareness month, April 11 is actually world Parkinson's day.
In Wisconsin, 15,000 people are affected by the disease.
This morning, an independent senior living home in Mequon joined a nationwide challenge to hit a collective 10 million steps on fitness bikes.
That number represents the number of people worldwide with Parkinson's.
"We are aware every single day of every single year and we would like your support in any way, any fashion. Please help us fight this disease," said Richard Cosentino, chair of the Wisconsin Parkinson's Association.
Study's show exercise can help manage symptoms of the disease.
By the year 2030, officials expect that 1.2 million Americans will be effected.
