MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 22-year-old Milwaukee man was shot and killed on Milwaukee's south side Sunday night, Sept. 13.

Family members have identified the victim as Sonny Bond.

“He was like, dang, Titi. I said, 'you better bring my present tomorrow,' and he was like, 'I got you.' He always had a big smile on his face,” said Lashanda Jackson, Bond’s aunt.

The last time Jackson saw her nephew was over the weekend as she celebrated her birthday.

“He was always cool with everybody. Friendly,” said Jackson.

On Sunday night, Bond was shot and killed. Milwaukee police say he died at the scene.

“Hoping that it was a dream and that he was still alive,” said Jackson.

This loss is especially hard for Jackson’s family. Just two years ago, Bond lost his dad.

“My brother had kidney disease, and he just unexpectedly passed from that. That was very hard. That was very hard for him and his siblings,” said Jackson.

Jackson says she’ll remember her nephew for his smile.

“Funny. He was a little bit of character, kinda, just like his dad. We would always tease him that he was just like his dad. He was a good kid. Not perfect but he was a good kid,” said Jackson.

She hopes her nephew gets justice.

“They find the person that did it,” said Jackson.

A weekend that was supposed to be spent celebrating, Jackson says, will now be remembered with loss.

“I don’t know. It’s a lot. I know the day after my birthday will never be the same,” said Jackson.

Milwaukee police say they are looking for an unknown suspect or suspects.
