1 dead, child hospitalized after Racine County house fire

RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Fire officials tell us one person has died, and a 4-year-old is hospitalized, after a house fire in the Village of Raymond Monday, Dec. 1. 

The call came in around 3 p.m., according to Raymond Fire & Rescue, for a structure fire at 108th Street and W. 6 Mile Road. 

The fire department says upon arrival, a Raymond chief officer learned that two people were trapped inside the home. A rescue attempt was made by the first arriving chief and a Norway police officer, but they were quickly overcome by smoke. 

A Racine County sheriff's deputy made a second attempt and was able to pull the child from the home. 

The fire department says upon fire crews' arrival, the second victim was located and removed from the house. Lifesaving measures were attempted, but the female victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The fire remains under investigation by the Racine County Fire Investigation Task Force and Racine County Sheriff's Department.
