RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine County Sheriff's Office has identified the woman killed as 38-year-old Jenna Zuehlke.

RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Fire officials tell us one person has died, and a 4-year-old is hospitalized, after a house fire in the Village of Raymond Monday, Dec. 1.

The call came in around 3 p.m., according to Raymond Fire & Rescue, for a structure fire at 108th Street and W. 6 Mile Road.

The fire department says upon arrival, a Raymond chief officer learned that two people were trapped inside the home. A rescue attempt was made by the first arriving chief and a Norway police officer, but they were quickly overcome by smoke.

A Racine County sheriff’s deputy went in a second time and was able to pull the 4-year-old child to safety.

When fire crews entered, they located a second victim, the child's mother, and attempted lifesaving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbor Menuchak Seifert said she didn’t know the family, but her son came home and saw smoke coming from the house.

“Smoke was coming out from the garage, all over from the garage door, black smoke.”

Seifert added the loss has been felt in the neighborhood.

“It’s a big loss when we’re losing people suddenly. It’s sad, extremely sad.”

The fire remains under investigation by the Racine County Fire Investigation Task Force and Racine County Sheriff's Department.
