WHITEWATER, Wis. (CBS 58) - One person was killed and several others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Walworth County.

According to the Walworth County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded shortly before 1 p.m. to the intersection of State Highway 12 and County Highway P in the Town of Whitewater after receiving reports of a serious crash.

Investigators say one vehicle was traveling west on State Highway 12 while another was traveling east. A preliminary investigation found one of the vehicles attempted to turn left onto County Highway P, crossing into the path of the oncoming vehicle and causing a head-on collision.

The passenger in one of the vehicles, a Town of Whitewater resident, was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts by first responders.

The driver of that vehicle and everyone in the other vehicle were taken to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
