100 trees chopped down in Wauwatosa; MCSO investigating felony crime
CBS 58 WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is investigating after someone cut 100 trees down.
A volunteer had come to water the saplings near the Menomonee River Parkway in Wauwatosa like usual on Wednesday when they noticed something bizarre.
Several saplings had been cut down -- 100 of them to be exact. Wires set around at the saplings were tossed to the side.
A Milwaukee County Parks coordinator says all the trees have been donated and planted by volunteers.
The trees were intended to help mitigate flooding in the area.
“I have no idea. I really don’t especially since so many folks in the community really supported this," said Sarah Long, the reforestation coordinator with Milwaukee County Parks.
The cost of damages is expected to be between $4,000 and $6,000.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is investigating this crime as felony damage to property.
