MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 12-year-old boy is the latest young gun violence victim this month and both Mayor Cavalier Johnson and Chief Jeffrey Norman said they are frustrated at this alarming trend.

“This is something unacceptable in our community, we should all find it unacceptable. We should not get complacent with this there’s a sense of urgency let’s lock down our guns, let’s ensure that those who are not responsible with guns not to have them in their hands,” said Chief Norman.

The mayor shared the same sentiment. When asked what can be done and what is being done, Mayor Cavalier Johnson said it's going to take state leaders to help keep guns away from the wrong hands.

"Our police department does an excellent job; our police officers do of finding people catching people who commit acts of violence in our community especially when they commit acts of violence by gun. But there's an upstream issue where folks have that access who just shouldn't and we need our partners at other levels of government to help us to solve the matter," said Mayor Cavalier Johnson.

On Wednesday night, Police said a 12-year-old boy was shot near 44th and Center just before 7:00 p.m. He is expected to be ok. Police have not made any arrests
