135-year-old Richfield home may be deemed a total loss following fire

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 135-year-old home in the village of Richfield is expected to be deemed a total loss following a fire on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office says just before 3 p.m., a 911 caller reported seeing visible flames coming from the home on Plat Road, north of Monches Road.
Fire crews were dispatched to the scene and the blaze intensified.
Officials say the homeowner arrived on the scene and removed his dog from the home.
The fire continued to spread.
According to the sheriff's office, the fire response was upgraded to a fifth box level to help provide additional water supply.
Throughout the firefighting process, upwards of 100,000 gallons of water were used.
Despite the efforts, the majority of the home sustained severe fire damage and is expected the renovated 135-year-old home will be deemed a total loss.
The fire remains under investigation.
