Meet CBS 58’s Pet of the Week: Gravy
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Beloved Milwaukee minister Kevin Simmons is back home recovering from the many gunshot wounds he now carries from a carjacking on Oct. 9. A 15-year-old was taken into custody Nov. 7 in connection to that shooting.
Simmons, who is currently recovering from 12 gunshot wounds, said it’s a miracle he's still here.
“I got another chance to get it right. And I heard that when I was unconscious, you know, that was the message that was given to me: you got another chance to get it right," said Simmons.
Simmons said he was shot several times on Oct. 9 while driving for Uber. As he was picking up a customer near 55th and Custer on Milwaukee's north side, Simmons said shots rang out.
According to a search warrant, Milwaukee police found Simmons on the ground bleeding from gunshot wounds. His phone and car were stolen.
The warrant said police arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection to the shooting; they tracked the teen by a phone number displayed on the Uber app.
Although Simmons is left with physical wounds of that horrific night, he found it in his heart to forgive the young man in custody.
“I prayed to God to forgive him. I already forgave him. I never, not one moment, had ill feelings toward the guy," said Simmons.
Milwaukee police said charges have been filed against the teen in connection to the shooting.
