2 armed men rob Kohl's department store in Fond Du Lac, one suspect in custody

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- According to a statement from the Fond du Lac Police Department Sunday night, Nov. 21, a suspect is in custody and another is on the run following an armed robbery attempt at a Kohls Department Store located at 913 W Johnson St. in Fond du Lac.

Police say that the robbery happened at approximately 5:31 p.m. Sunday,

Fond du Lac police say officers were called to the Kohl's Department Store located at 913 W Johnson St. for a report of an armed robbery.

Officials indicate that two males wearing masks entered the store, one suspect was armed with a hammer, and began smashing the display cases in the jewelry section of the store, and began stealing jewelry.

Reports show that as police were responding to the scene, they were advised that a suspect was being detained by citizen bystanders.

The statement from police details that Fond du Lac police officers and a deputy from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department later arrived on the scene and were able to take the suspect being detained by citizens into custody.

Authorities say that the second suspect was able to flee from the store prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic male with a medium build.

Reports say that the suspect was last seen wearing a yellow and green traffic vest and dark pants.

Fond du Lac Police say the 29-year-old suspect that was taken into custody is currently being held at the Fond du Lac County Jail.

Officers say they were able to recover the stolen merchandise.

No injuries to any customers or staff of Kohl’s were reported.
