MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police say two people, including one who is connected to the homicide, were arrested Monday evening following a vehicle pursuit and a crash.

Officers observed a vehicle wanted in connection to the homicide around 8:10 p.m. on I-94 and Clayton Crest Avenue.

Officials say the driver pulled over and exited the vehicle, and the passenger then got into the driver's seat and fled. A pursuit began, ending when the driver lost control and collided with a guardrail on I-94 near N. 16th Street.

The driver, a 27-year-old man, fled on foot and was arrested in relation to the shooting.

Police say the initial driver, also a 27-year-old man, was also arrested.

Charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County DA's Office.

CBS 58 spoke with a woman who lives around the block from where the shooting happened, who said in her experience, violence in the area is rare.

"What a nightmare," said neighbor Debra Gillispie. “When I heard about the shooting last night, the first thing I thought about was the families.”

She described the neighborhood as a quiet suburb, so when she learned what had happened, it came as a shock.

“Our biggest problem may be, you know, someone needs to clean something in the alley, that’s been my experience until yesterday," Gillispie said.

The gun violence is unfortunately something she knows too well, after losing her only son and his two friends in a triple shooting in 2003.

That's what led her to create Mothers Against Gun Violence, a local community organization that provides support for survivors.

“Someone - a mother, a father, a sibling, is waking up thinking that hopefully that was a bad dream, 'til they come to the realization that the loved one or loved ones are gone," Gillispie said.
