MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Starting Monday, Sept. 21, a two-year construction project will be taking place inside the Milorganite building at Jones Island. 

According to the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD), some of the smoke typically discharged through a 350-foot-tall exhaust stack will be discharged through the roof of the building due to the ongoing project. 

The district says it will be highly visible to drivers going over the Hoan Bridge at times, and certain weather conditions could lead to visibility or freezing issues. They say they'll be monitoring for those conditions and will post warning signs and respond as necessary. 

All of the smoke will continue to go through pollution control equipment before being released. 

MMSD says the district can shut the exhaust off from the rooftop or reduce operations if needed.
