27th AIDS Walk Wisconsin this Saturday

Walkers and runners from across Wisconsin are gearing up for the 27th annual AIDS Walk Wisconsin, taking place Saturday October 1 at the Summerfest Grounds in Milwaukee.

Broadway, TV and Film Star Taye Diggs will serve as the event’s Honorary Chair and will be joined by ARCW President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Gifford to lead the opening ceremonies of this year’s walk and 5k run, which raises critical funds supporting HIV prevention, care and treatment.

Gates will open at 9:30 AM for registration, activities and live performances. 5k run begins at 10:30 AM. Ceremonies begin at noon.

The event will take place at the Milwaukee Summerfest Grounds. Due to construction at the Summerfest Grounds, registration and the opening
ceremonies will be moved from the Miller Lite stage to the Briggs & Stratton stage. Participants will enter Maier Festival Park through the south gate of the Summerfest Grounds, rather than mid-gate as in the past.

Ample free parking is close to the south gate entrance.

This year’s route will leave and return through the walkway on the lakefront side of the Summerfest Grounds. This is the walkway used in the past as walkers
returned to the grounds. The route will continue to Veteran’s Park, passing near Discovery World. The Wauwatosa West Marching Band will help lead runners and walkers past Discovery World Museum.
