CALEDONIA, Wis. (CBS 58) — The Caledonia Police Department says a 28-year-old Greenfield man was injured following an altercation and shooting between groups on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Police responded to the scene near 7 Mile Road and E. Frontage Road around 2:48 a.m.

The incident was initially reported as a hit-and-run vehicle crash, but upon arrival, officers quickly determined the victim had suffered a possible gunshot wound to the right side of his upper back.

The man was taken to Froedtert, where he was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say a closer inspection of the silver Honda showed multiple bullet holes, and multiple shell casings were located on E. Frontage Road just north of 6 1/2 Mile Road.

A preliminary investigation indicates an altercation began between two groups of individuals at a known location outside of Caledonia.

Police say the groups entered Caledonia, where the altercation continued and gunfire was exchanged.

This is not considered a random event, but rather an altercation between groups and individuals who are known to each other.

Police say there is no reason to believe the Caledonia community or the public is in any danger.
