MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The 28th annual 'Stuff the Bus' Food Drive expanded to six Metro Market locations across the Milwaukee area, double the number from last year.

Organizers say the need is growing and that's why they spread 'Stuff the Buss' out to six stores this year.

At the Shorewood Metro Market location, people stopped by all afternoon, Nov. 21, to buy a five-dollar bag that provides five meals to local families.

Organizers say that support really matters, especially with more families turning to food assistance this time of year.

"I think, especially around the holiday season, it's important for people to have access to healthy and nutritious food," said Aaron Rice, chief development officer of Feeding America Wisconsin. "It doesn't matter the tradition that you celebrate and hopefully you can make a new tradition this year. So, I hope that through these bags and the support of our community everyone is able to have access to healthy and nutritious food this holiday season."

The food drive went until 6 p.m. Friday afternoon. Participating locations this year included:

  • Shorewood – 4075 N. Oakland Avenue
  • Greenfield – 4279 S. 76th Street
  • Wauwatosa – 6950 W. State Street
  • Brookfield – 12735 W. Capitol Drive
  • Oconomowoc – 1300 Pabst Farms Circle
  • Mequon – 11558 N. Port Washington Road
