29-year-old charged with shooting police officer pleads not guilty

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man charged with shooting and wounding a police officer is headed for trial.

25-year-old Harrel Martin appeared at his preliminary hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 17, facing ten felony counts. The charges include attempted homicide charges. He is accused of barricading himself inside a home near Lincoln Park, with four children inside. 

According to a criminal complaint, when police arrived, Martin fired a rifle, hitting Officer Dan Morrell, who survived. He has serious leg injuries. 

In court today, Martin pleaded not guilty to the charges, and was bound over for trial. A bail/bond hearing is next for him on Feb. 5th.
