29-year-old man killed in suspected lightning strike in Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 29-year-old man was killed by a suspected lightning strike in Whitewater Monday, July 27, while working on a tree clearing job.  

It happened shortly before 10 a.m. near Elizabeth and W. Laurel Street.

According to Whitewater Fire and EMS, the man was suspended in a tree nearly 60 feet off the ground and had to be brought down by members of his crew.

The crew's supervisor reported there'd been a "loud bang and a flash," and said they believed the tree was struck by lightning.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The incident remains under investigation.
