MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Police Department confirmed a 4-year-old girl was hospitalized after she was hit by a car near 3rd and Nash.

The girl is in critical condition as of Friday night, Sept. 1. The driver fled the scene.

Neighbors told us she was riding a small tricycle at around 5:45 p.m. Friday evening. She then got off the bike to cross the street.

MPD said that's when she was hit, and the car took off.

Officers were on the scene for nearly two hours after the girl was taken to the hospital, trying to find homes that had doorbell cameras that may have captured the car.

Rayquan Wheeler lives nearby and witnessed the aftermath. He told us, "I saw a little girl in the middle of the road just laying there. And I saw a speeding car going down that way. As soon as the girl hit the pavement, you can see her arms just stop moving.

This is the second time a child was hit by a car this week. 11-year-old Tyrone Reese was hit by a car while riding his bike Sunday, Aug. 27. He died at the hospital Wednesday. 30-year-old Sylvester Thomas was charged with second-degree reckless homicide and hit-and-run resulting in death.

On Thursday, Aug. 31, 52-year-old Robert Cocroft was hit and killed while riding on a rental scooter near 37th and Congress. That driver also fled the scene and has not been identified.
