Police: 5-year-old boy killed after being struck by car in Racine

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Racine police are investigating after a child was fatally struck by a vehicle Tuesday night, Oct. 18.

Police responded to the area near West Street and N. Memorial Drive around 8:20 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a young girl had run into the street from the west. North and southbound traffic stopped for the child and urged her to get out of the street.

Officials say once the child left the roadway, southbound traffic started to resume. At that point, a 5-year-old boy ran into the road from the east. Northbound traffic saw the child and did not move, however a vehicle heading south did not see the 5-year-old and struck him.

The child was taken to Ascension Medical Center where he later died.
