MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An event in Milwaukee pushing to raise awareness for human trafficking took place Monday morning, Nov. 25.
A part of the nonprofit organization, "Convergence Resource Center," the HEMAD campaign is now entering its seventh year.
Standing for Human Trafficking Educators Working with Men and Boys to Stand Against the Demand." The campaign targets men across Wisconsin and the country to take the pledge against the commercial exploitation of adults and children.
"it is important to every woman, for every man in her life to take this pledge, to say not on my watch, to say it's not okay, because for many years human trafficking hid in plain sight because we'd look at it and shake our head and say how awful it was, and we didn't do anything," said Dr. Debbie Lassiter, CEO of Convergence Resource Center.
Organizers are pushing for 75,000 men to take the HEMAD Pledge this year.
