8 displaced after fire in multi-family building in Waukesha
CBS 58 WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A fire at a multi-family building in Waukesha left eight people displaced Monday morning, Sept. 7.
Crews responded to the building on Waterview Lane and Haymarket Road just before 9:30 a.m. and found smoke and visible flames coming from the second floor.
According to the Waukesha Fire Department, the fire was contained to the unit where it started and the attic of the building, however there is damage throughout all four units.
No injuries to firefighters or tenants were reported, and the Red Cross is assisting those affected.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
In a press release Monday afternoon, the fire department noted that this is an example of how smoke detectors save lives.
The release also included a reminder from the City of Waukesha, highlighting the importance of discarding smoking materials properly.
