MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police say so far this year 52 juveniles have been shot.

One of those victims is an 8-year old boy that was grazed by a bullet that came through his house Thursday evening.

The shots were fired around 6:40 p.m. near 22nd and Locust.

Police say at least one of the bullets penetrated the home and hit him.

He was treated on scene and then taken to the hospital. Police say he is now at home recovering from a graze wound.

Milwaukee’s Office of Violence Prevention Director, Reggie Moore, said once the boy’s wounds heal, the impact of this experience could be long-lasting.

“It’s not just a physical impact that a gunshot wound has,” Moore said. “It’s also a psychological impact, and not just even on a young person that’s injured, but on anyone who’s witnessed that.”

A neighbor says she heard 10-20 gunshots and dropped to the floor.

She says it’s normally a quiet block, but now some of her neighbors are thinking about moving.

“We can’t let our kids live,” Delilah Simpson said. “We can’t let no one play and it’s just ridiculous. He’s 8 years old. It shouldn’t happen to an 8-year-old. I mean, we all have kids you don’t want anything happening to your kids.”

Right now police say it is unclear if the shooting was random or if the house was targeted. They are still looking for suspects.
