Marquette lacrosse player driver bound over for trial in crash that killed 2 teammates
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — It's been nearly one year since two Marquette University lacrosse players were killed in a Milwaukee crash.
Back in June, the driver of the other vehicle was acquitted on all charges.
On Wednesday, Aug. 12, the driver of the lacrosse players' vehicle was back in court for a preliminary hearing.
Peter McColgan is facing two felony counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint, McColgan sped through the intersection of North 27th Street and West St. Paul Avenue in an attempt to beat a yellow light and collided with another driver who was trying to turn.
Scott Michaud, 19, and Noah Snyder, 20, were in the back seat and died from the impact.
In July, a plea deal for McColgan that would have allowed him to graduate from Marquette fell through.
During Wednesday's hearing, McColgan's defense tried to have the case dismissed, arguing the state did not have enough evidence to establish criminal conduct. The court ultimately found probable cause and bound McColgan over for trial.
McColgan's arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 4.
