MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Senator Ron Johnson stopped by Milwaukee's Juneteenth Day celebration Saturday afternoon, June 19.

A crowd of people at the event booed and heckled Johnson while hew as speaking to reporters.

Johnson dropped his objection to making "Juneteenth" a federal holiday earlier this week, after he blocked the bipartisan legislation a year ago.

The republican senator says he is not against celebrating the day, but he didn't think workers needed another paid day off at tax payers' expense.

"Most people are getting really tired of the division," Johnson said. "I think people are looking to really heal this nation and certainly that's what I want to do. We can't continue down this path. So again, I think this is a day to celebrate."

Johnson also visited Kenosha's Juneteenth celebrations on Saturday.
