GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- When talking about Jordan Love's future, why not take a step into his past? Love's first college coach at Utah State, Matt Wells, was the only FBS coach to offer the Green Bay Packers new starting quarterback a scholarship out of high school.
"He was a skinny kid in high school, didn't throw for a ton of yards, but we liked some of the things that he did," said Matt Wells.
Wells tried to rattle him during a recruiting workout. Chasing him and yelling at him in the empty high school stadium.
"I remember it like it was yesterday…same guy. Sixteen years old until now. Calm, cool, collected, confident but not cocky," Wells said.
That confident nature helped Jordan win over the Utah State locker room as a freshman. It'll be crucial as the Packers transition from future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.
"Often times he's in a back meeting room by himself watching tape and you didn't even realize he's in the building. So he's never one to toot his own horn but the guys know, the locker room knows," said Wells.
Coach Wells talks to Jordan throughout the off-season and tells CBS 58 that as proud as he is to have helped guide Jordan Love on the field, he's more proud of Jordan Love the person.
