Airport officials: Sunday after Thanksgiving expected to be the busiest with record-breaking flyers
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Tuesday, Nov. 21 is day of a busy travel week for people across the country.
"The Delta guy was outside for curbside check in," said Aneiia Steele. "Because we were running late as always, and the line doesn't seem that long, so I think we'll be fine."
Airport officials are expecting 20,000 travelers a day in Milwaukee. They say that's an average busy day for the terminals here.
Many travelers we spoke to say they were hoping to beat the crowds by leaving Tuesday instead of Wednesday.
"We're doing it on Tuesday rather than Wednesday, and in the morning too, so we don't have to worry about flights getting delayed and everything," said Germantown resident Jeff.
"We were hoping to get out early today and avoid most of the chaos, but it is looking like it's pretty busy," said Michelle Seguin on her way to Orlando with her husband and two kids.
Officials with the Transportation Security Administration say it's the way home that could cause delays for some.
"I think this weekend is going to be a challenge. We're forecasting 2.9 million nationwide on Sunday," said Mark Lendvay, Wisconsin
Wisconsin Federal Security Director for the TSA.
That would be an all-time record in 22 years of the TSA's existence.
"Hoping that the weather holds, and we get there and back without any issue. Thats always an adventure when you're traveling with kids especially around the holidays," said Seguin.
As of Tuesday morning, there were no delays, but travelers are encouraged to check flights before heading to the airport.
