Aliyah Pérez laid to rest, Milwaukee woman killed in domestic violence shooting

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The family of Aliyah Pérez gathered Monday, March 6, to say goodbye. The niece of Milwaukee Common Council President José Pérez was laid to rest.

A mass of Christian burial was held at a church on Milwaukee's south side Monday. Pérez was shot and killed Feb. 26. Police say her ex-boyfriend killed her. He then took his own life after a police chase a few days later.

Alderman Pérez has issued a statement, thanking friends and colleagues for their support.

He also says it's important for everyone to make themselves aware of the signs of domestic violence and then to sound the alarm to protect potential victims.
