Armed robbery at Brady Street vintage store: MPD looking for suspect
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Milwaukee police are searching for a suspect after an armed robbery at a Brady Street clothing store.
Police say an armed robbery happened at Bandit MKE vintage store on Wednesday around 4:30 p.m.
Now, the store's co-owner is warning other businesses to be on the lookout.
"We're reeling after the fact, and that's really what you don't plan for until it happens to you," said Michelle Eigenberger, co-owner of Bandit MKE.
Through high emotions, she is glad her employees are safe after who they thought was a customer demanded money, saying she had a gun.
"My employee was in shock - like, what am I hearing from this person - and I guess to get her attention, she hit her a couple of times and shoved her over to the register to get the money out," Eigenberg explained.
She said the woman ran out the door and down Brady Street with less than $100 from the cash register.
The employee, who was alone at the time, called police. Thankfully, she's not hurt.
"She's physically okay," Eigenberger said. "We're checking in with her, making sure if she needs anything we got her covered."
Security video shows the suspect: a female with eye makeup or tattoos, wearing an orange jacket, scarf and face mask.
Eigenberger says the Brady Street community has shown a lot of support.
"Business owners checking in, business owners sending video footage," she explained. "Just making sure we're okay."
She's spreading the word in hopes this won't happen to anyone else.
"It's traumatic. It's horrible," Eigenberger said. "Just look out for each other. Keep each other safe. Check in on your employees, especially if they're working alone."
Bandit MKE was closed Thursday to recuperate from the incident. They will reopen Friday for the weekend and hope to see some smiling customers.
