Arrest warrant issued for man charged with murder of well-known Milwaukee barber
Credit: Milwaukee Police Department, Smith family MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An arrest warrant has been issued for a 64-year-old Milwaukee man accused in the murder of a well-known barber. Authorities have charged Fred Shabazz -- also known as "Fred Morris Jefferson" -- with first-degree reckless homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon in the death of 37-year-old Pierre Smith.
The shooting happened April 9, near Lisbon and Burleigh.
Security cameras in the area captured the shooting, according to a criminal complaint. The video reportedly shows a suspect -- later identified as Shabazz -- exit a van and approach Smith and another man who had been entering a barbershop. The witness, according to the complaint, saw Shabazz shoot Smith in the head multiple times. Security video from the area reportedly shows the shooting unfold.
On April 10, authorities searched the van Shabazz had been seen exiting before the shooting. Inside, officials found prescription medication bottles and bills that had Shabazz's name on them.
According to the complaint, investigators tracked down a family member of Shabazz and a woman who indicated she was involved with him. Both reportedly identified Shabazz in the security video as the one who pulled the trigger.
Shabazz has several felony convictions on his record including felony theft, drug possession, and more.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Shabazz.
