FRANKLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An art piece anonymously donated to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Franklin has sold for a whopping $88,000 at an auction in Chicago.
We first brought you the story three weeks ago and after our coverage, Habitat officials say multiple generous bidders reached out.
The painting, a triptych titled Green Dominance, Blue Dominance, Red Dominance, by British artist Bridget Riley, has never sold for this much before, breaking its world record.
Auctioneers originally priced the value for about a third of what the piece sold for -- between $25-35,000.
Now, the sale will be able to cover the cost of an entire house, the equivalent of one month's worth of sales across their local ReStores.
"All the funds that were raised with this artwork will go directly into our community, helping to break down the barriers to affordable homeownership for first-time buyers," said Jake Brandt of Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat officials say this is one of the most expensive hidden gems that has ever been donated to the ReStore.
