MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A new sculpture is being built near Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Milwaukee.
Renowned artist and architect Matthias Neumann is in town Wednesday, June 2, to construct an art piece for his "Basics Series for Sculpture Milwaukee."
Students from UWM's School of Architecture and Urban Planning are also on hand for the fabrication of "Basics Number 50."
The sculpture is being constructed on site with 2x4 wood panels.
"You see the top layer of these two-by-fours kind of like coming down, the lower layers are coming up, so it's going to basically kind of like form this 'V' on its side, so there's a special envelope that I hope kind of is being perceived as part of the sidewalk," Neumann said.
The work will be on view through the fall of 2022 as a part of Sculpture Milwaukee's exhibition titled "there is this We," co-curated by Theaster Gates and Mitchelle Grabner.
