Back-to-back snowstorms cause problems for some Milwaukee drivers
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Back-to-back snowstorms are frustrating drivers on Milwaukee's east side. They're shoveling their way out of street parking, only to return and find no way to pull back in.
Parking in that area of the city is always tight, but add mounds of snow to that, and unless you've got a sled on the east side right now, you likely have a frown on your face.
Snow brush in hand, it's how the day started for drivers all over, but on the east side, it's been especially rough. Gary Peppler helped push a driver whose wheels got stuck.
"When this happens, the smaller cars especially seems they have a little more difficulty getting in and out. You know, I had to push her for her to at least get started. That was during the thick of the storm," said Peppler.
Milwaukee's DPW asks for patience as they work to clear the city's 7,000 miles of streets. It's clear their plows already made one pass on Webster between Maryland and Farwell.
"So, sometimes you won't find a spot because there's just a snowbank right there," said Kate Do, east side driver.
"And this morning I had to shovel myself out to get the car out," said Cameron Lee, east side driver.
"I actually just got a ticket for parking on the street during a snow emergency," said Juan Nicanor, Milwaukee driver.
Snow wasn't falling Saturday, and it was a warm day, giving people a chance to catch up.
"I don't mind the cold too much. I get warm pretty fast anyway and I don't think this is too cold compared to what it's been," said Karalyn Cisler, east side pedestrian.
Warm temperatures with snow on the ground did bring some joy to the east side.
"Been a lot of fun, not too cold and good snow," said Kevin Olikara, dad.
Those with sleds in hand made the most of it at Lafayette Hill.
"She has done this a few years and usually it ends in tears and crying, but this year she's excited and wants to do more, so it's good so far," said Kiersten Olikara, mom.
"This is my daughter Sage. It's her first time sledding. And how is she liking it? She's having a blast. She's having so much fun," said Mina Millay-Metz, mom.
And this reminder from Milwaukee's DPW, but really it's good advice anywhere, if you see a fire hydrant that's covered by snow and ice, clear that snow and ice away from it.
