MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The 29th annual Unity in the Community Back to School Festival was held at Martin Luther King Jr Park on Saturday, Aug. 10.
Milwaukee kids got free book bags filled with supplies for the upcoming school year, but this was more than just a giveaway. It included games, family activities with prizes and lots of food.
"It brings tears to our eyes. Every year. Every year," said Nori Carter, President, King Advisory Inc.
"Definitely a beautiful and joyous occasion to see the kids actually be able to enjoy themselves and run around and play and eat as much cotton candy and sno cones and send 'em back to their parents (giggles)," said Devona Coggs-Jones, Vice President, King of Advisory Inc.
2,000 book bags were ready for the giveaway.
Organizers are already talking about next year's 30th anniversary of the event next year, promising to take it "way, way, over the top."
