MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Dozens of seniors at Bay View High School learned about the importance of voting with the help from the Milwaukee Bucks.

In the Bay View High School gymnasium on Thursday, Jan 18, there wasn't a regular game of ball taking place. It was ball with a bigger purpose.

“That was my first time really getting called up for something like that. It felt like I couldn’t even stand,” said Bay View High School senior Troy Noble.

Bango and the Milwaukee Bucks Rim Rockers spread the word about the importance of voting.

“It puts a little bit more energy into the building," said Bay View High School social studies teacher Jonathan Schroeder.

For Bay View seniors, it's a slam dunk.

“Just how much they show love and how much they trying to support us in that way. It felt good to see that," said Noble.

Students say this event is a reminder their vote can change a community.

“I think it would be a good way to get ready for life because voting is a big part of our world and society," said Bay View High School senior Kaylee Menting.

After the performance ended in the gymnasium, students met with the League of Women Voters to become a registered voter.

“At first it was scary because I didn’t know exactly what I was doing," said Menting.

Schroeder says getting registered is one of the biggest hurdles that may stop future voters.

“Here, they are able to get all the questions they need answered by the people who understand the process," said Schroeder.

With the help of the Rim Rockers, more students became registered voters on Thursday's Register to Vote Rally.

“We’ve got a few extra people that may not have come to register that are going through the process or have already," said Schroeder.

Now, Bay View seniors say they're looking forward to casting their first ballot and making sure their voices are reflected in the next election cycle.

“I think there’s a lot of meaning behind voting," said Menting.
