Brewers clinch the National League Central Division

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - The Milwaukee Brewers entered the day needing either a win or a Chicago Cubs loss but had the benefit of the Cubs playing five hours before the Brewers' first pitch.

Thanks to Craig Counsel's Cubs losing to the Oakland Athletics 5-3, the Brewers clinched without even stepping on the field Wednesday.

After leading the division since April, the Brewers now claim their fourth division title in the last seven seasons.

The Brewers have won seven division titles including five in the NL Central Division in franchise history. This is the 10th postseason berth for the Brewers and the first with Pat Murphy as manager.

With the division crown in hand, the Brewers now focus on overall playoff seeding. The top two seeds in the National League receive a bye to the National League Division Series. The Brewers are trying to catch the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies in the standings.
