MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Brewers secured the National League's top seed on Thursday, Sept. 24, guaranteeing home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Brewers took down the Phillies 5-1 earlier in the evening, then watched the Los Angeles Dodgers fall to the Padres 4-2, a result that shut the door on the Dodgers catching the Brewers in the standings.

Thursday's win also pushed the Brewers to 100 wins, a mark the franchise had never hit before.

Milwaukee's edge in the season series against the Dodgers gives it the tiebreaker over the 2-time defending champions, and since the Brewers will finish with a stronger record than the Tampa Bay Rays, the American League's top seed, home-field advantage in the World Series would belong to Milwaukee should the team advance that far.
