Brookfield Central's David Joplin signs with Marquette
BROOKFIELD, WI (CBS 58) - It's not often you get to sign to two different schools in the same year. Brookfield Central's David Joplin picked the perfect one for Milwaukee 414 Day, Marquette.
"It feels great. I can finally breath now," 'said David Joplin, Brookfield Central senior basketball player.
"Things happen for a reason so I'm very happy and proud that he's staying home," said Lisa Joplin, David's Mom.
This decision is a long time coming. Joplin originally committed to Texas last year but things changed in March. Shaka Smart left the Longhorns and was announced as the Marquette Head Coach on March 26th.
Joplin reopened his commitment on April 3rd and it only made sense to stick with Smart and stay home.
"It's great. I talk to him every day twice a day, we both facetime. He's just a guy that made me believe in him. i want to play for him. he tells me every day that he's grateful for me. So I just feel that family feeling," said David.
"We were like well, things happen for a reason," said Howard Joplin, David's Dad. "I think for him, it was always gonna be playing for Coach Smart because we like em all, Coach smart, Coach (Neill) Berry. They've been just great with us."
"Coach Smart was one of the main coaches that never gave up on David's recruiting. We tell David always go where you're celebrated, go where you're wanted the most and Coach Shaka and his staff really let David know they are very very interested in him," said Lisa.
This recruiting process was all virtual. Countless zooms and campus visits done with pictures. After that process, David is happy the decision is final.
"I get to play at home now. my parents can see me every game and i can play for coach smart. so everything came full circle," said David.
