BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- While everyone was getting shovels and snowblowers out Friday morning, one five-year-old boy was getting the job done in style.
Lance Lamont turned a free toy Jeep he found on Facebook Marketplace into a full-functioning snowplow for his son, Lucas, by replacing the battery and adding a real plow blade.
"We don't have a lot of traction so deep snow like we had last night, it just can't do, but if we've got two to four inches of powder, he does a great job," Lamont said.
From drawing up 3D models to welding the metal together, Lamont built the entire thing by hand in less than a week's time at the Milwaukee Makerspace.
"How do you make a snowplow? I'd never done it. I've seen them drive by. But what do you do?" Lamont said.
The father-son project was more than building a new toy. Lamont told CBS 58 it was an opportunity to teach Lucas if things don't work the first time, try again.
"You get some frustrating moments. I just wanted to show him that you got to work through them," Lamont said.
A lesson Lucas is putting to use as he learns to plow his driveway.
"He's still learning. The straight lines are a little bit of a challenge," Lamont said.
Lamont said he won't be building any more toy snowplows but is already brainstorming other machines for Lucas to drive in the summer.
