CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Baseball's next battle may not be on the field.
MLB's labor deal expires after this season, and owners are pushing for a hard salary cap and salary floor.
Players have long fought against a cap, saying it limits what they can earn. But owners say that would control spending and make the league more competitive.
Former commissioner and Brewers owner Bud Selig spoke with us about what's at stake and whether baseball can avoid another lockout and stoppage in play.
"I have great faith in our people in doing their job," Selig said. "And this is just -- we're not even in the first inning. So hopefully they'll work things out in the next eight or nine months."
MLB owners are expected to meet next on Tuesday.
