MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Third Ward was filled with people Sunday morning, Aug. 25, for a car show to celebrate automobile design. More than 50 cars were on display and the Wienermobile even made a stop to the event.

"It's a celebration of auto design and a trifecta of three anniversaries. The Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design's 50th anniversary, the Excalibur by Brooks Stevens 60th anniversary and the 90th anniversary of the Brooks Stevens Design Studio," said Jeff Morin, MIAD President.

The Oscar Myer Wienermobile was there, which was designed by Brooks Stevens.

"Brooks was really one of the founding fathers of modern-day design. He took industrial products and then remixed them for a consumer buyer. To his name, there's about 3,000 product designs and 42 cars that can be attributed to Brooks Stevens Design," said Ryan Hahn, design director at Brooks Stevens.

The Wienermobile has evolved over the years, but Brooks Stevens is credited for revolutionizing its design back in the 1950's.

"He actually designed it to put the wiener in the bun, that was revolutionary at the time for ...these types of promotional vehicles," said Morin.

Morin says acknowledging the importance of art and design in our community is what this Cars and Coffee event is all about and what MIAD is all about.

"We are really adding to the creative economy locally and we really want to represent Milwaukee in that community," he said.

Hahn says Milwaukee will also be an important community for the legacy of Brooks Stevens Design. "Milwaukee has a lot to offer. We're showing some great things today and we're excited for the people to come out and see it," he said.
