CBS 58 at American Family Field for coverage of Brewers Opening Day ⚾
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Tens of thousands of baseball fans made memories at Opening Day Thursday, as a new season started at home, with a 14-2 win for the Brewers.
The Brewers took on the White Sox in a matchup with some history and a fun storyline on the mound. Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski and White Sox pitcher Shane Smith were once Minor League teammates, climbing through Milwaukee's farm system together before Smith was selected by Chicago in the Rule 5 Draft. The two even pitched in the same game for High-A Wisconsin in July 2023.
Thursday was the first time the Brewers and White Sox have opened a season against each other in more than 30 years.
The Brewers are in some ways, a model Major League franchise. They don't have the kind of financial resources that major market teams have, yet they are three-time defending division champs, making the most of what they have.
And while fans sometimes get frustrated that the team hasn't reached the World Series under Principal Owner Mark Attanasio's leadership, the pact is they are contenders year after year, while other small market teams struggle.
Attanasio spoke with reports before Thursday's Opening Day game and pointed with pride to the factor in the team's performance.
"We really look to have stability across the board," Attanasio said. "Stability allowed us, you know, when we had a manager opening and a president of baseball GM opening, to just promote from within."
Those promotions -- Pat Murphy to manager and Matt Arnold to general manager -- have worked out very well. Murphy has been Manager of the Year two years running and Matt Arnold has been Executive of the Year.
We will have special coverage on-air and online throughout the day, with updates during the CBS 58 News while updates roll out across our social media pages throughout Opening Day.
