MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Saturday, March 22 is World Water Day. With Lake Michigan right in our own backyard, it may come as no surprise that Milwaukee is home to the only freshwater science school in the country.
UWM’s School of Freshwater Science has aquatic science programs that study everything from contamination to policy and fish.
“Water, water,” said Professor Dong Fang Deng. “Water is the number one critical factor impacting the fish, because they live in the water.”
Whether it’s PFAS, microplastics or other contaminants, Professor Dong Fang Deng is focused on what fish and humans are consuming.
From their fish farm to the shoreline of Lake Michigan, students at UWM are able to research waterways like nowhere else.
