CBS 58's Hometown Athlete: 92-year-old Joyce Ziske-Malison continues to golf at high level
WATERFORD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- At Rivermoor Golf Club in Waterford, it's your typical round of Thursday morning trash talk.
"Trees don't grow in the middle of the fairway!" Joyce Ziske-Malison says. "Oh, just hit it!"
"You don't give anybody sympathy?" CBS 58 Sports Director Lance Allan asks.
"No, no, no, no, no," Ziske-Malison exclaims.
Until you realize the most noise comes from 92-year-old Joyce Ziske-Malison.
"Ah, you missed it!" Ziske-Malison says.
"How often do you play?" Allan asks.
"Every day," Ziske-Malison says.
Joyce has an eagle on every hole.
"The last one was number seven, the favorite where we started," Ziske-Malison says. "Ah, 3 years ago."
Which means she's good. Really good.
"I've shot age, or under my age, since 70. When I was 70, I had 69. And I've done that all the way up now, to 91, 92.," Ziske-Malison says.
On this day, two of her male friends played against her. And they can't beat her.
"It's really tough," Bob Kulinski says. "I think I got her the first couple times I played. But I think it's been like 10 in a row that I've not. So, it's like, you just, you just can't."
"I have no chance of beating her and I'm very realistic," Travis Grob says. "I'm a high handicapper. In fact, my goal this year was to golf Joyce's age."
"The guys all say, well, I broke Joyce's age today. You know, they take my age instead of their own age," Ziske-Malison says.
Her golf journey started on the family farm and took her all the way to the pro ranks.
"I hit golf balls free because I picked them up in my family's cow pasture," Ziske-Malison says.
"I hope I inspire some people to keep going and not sit down. I know my doctor said just keeping doing what you did. And that was when I was 80," Ziske-Malison says.
And while she's competitive, she continues to give back to the game.
"How much do you charge for lessons?" Allan asks.
"I really don't.," Ziske-Malison says with a laugh. "I just, I just help people."
