CBS 58's Hometown Athlete: Carroll golfer goes hole-in-one x2
WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- One hole-in-one, is amazing.
"It is insane," Carroll Sophomore Golfer Maddie O'Brien says. "Like the first one? We did not see it go in. So, it was like, I was just going up there. And I was like; we saw it in the hole."
"It was chilling, to be honest," Carroll Assistant Women's and Men's Golf Coach Luke Mytych says. "After the second one? We had the hair raising up on our arms. The energy was at an all-time high."
But two in competition rounds, is another level.
"The second one? I was the only one that saw it go in." O'Brien says. "And that feeling of like walking up to the hole to pick another ball out of it was just, I can't even put it into words."
"She sets herself up for that success, to get that two percent luck," Mytych says. "And put it all together for that 100 percent hole in one."
Meet Maddie O'Brien, a Carroll University sophomore golfer who had a hole in one on different courses on back-to-back days while competing in Alabama.
"My golf, I have a trainer at home. His name's Mark," O'Brien says. "And he told me good things happen to good people. And I truly just put a lot of effort in all the things that I do. So, I think, I think I did get a little lucky with these. But I truly think good things happen when you do things for other people and you do good things in your life."
On this day? We tried to get her to make another at Carroll's home course of Morningstar. And yes, she has more than two.
"I actually got one my freshman year during preseason," O'Brien says. "It was like the third day of tryouts. I knew no one on the team. And I had one with three other girls in my group. And they were like, oh my, she's here to play."
"She's been one of the best additions we could have ever had," Mytych says. "The amount of support she gives her teammates, her coaches. It just drives our program forward constantly in a positive way."
And funny thing. Maddie is 20. So, she can't complete one of golf's unwritten rules. Buying rounds after an ace.
'My team, they had said you owe us two rounds of drinks," O'Brien says with a laugh. "So, I think when I turn 21 and come back? I will in fact have to buy them two rounds. They all kind of like joke about it a little bit. Like, oh here comes Maddie. Like here you go. And I always say like oh I'll share it with you guys. You can have the next one."
