MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The action at MFC Sports Complex in north Milwaukee never stops. From soccer drills to baseball players taking reps, this facility is constantly alive, creating young hometown stars.

MFC Sports Coach Kamrin Pegues has loved seeing the kids have the ability to train with the best.

“To work with great trainers like myself, Ian, Bennett and Charlie Trout, individually or in group settings, to build on those fundamentals,” Pegues says.

Baseball teams in the Milwaukee area have the opportunity to build skills at the facility too. Whitefish Bay U-11 All-Star Baseball Team Coach Andrew Liska adds his experience as well.

“We are really intentional with understanding workloads and not overpitching. We have a good relationship with our club players and the little league to always understand where the kids are at," Liska says.

This specific day, the kids have the opportunity to train under Charlie Trout. As the manager of the Puerto Rico National Team and a coach for soccer clinics, he emphasizes the need for indoor facilities.

“We have done studies [that show] the percentage of repetition that these players get indoors is off the charts compared to what you get outside," Trout says.

He developed a new system of wall touches in a controlled atmosphere for more skill development.

“The use of walls is huge," Trout said. “Players are passing the ball off the wall and they are receiving off the wall. The amount of touches they are getting compared to what they’re going to get when their team practices outside is just on a different scale.”

Baseball kids used to be at a huge disadvantage in Wisconsin, and now that is a thing of the past. Liska praises MFC Sports Complex for helping develop the kids.

“Where [the facility] really comes in huge for us is they are climate controlled. So in the summer, when we get a crazy storm, we have the ability to come here, or in the offseason because you can’t play baseball in winter!”
